Alright, on to day 3 of our Siargao trip!!
We asked Lina of Very Good Nice surf shop to help us organize a trip to Sugba Lagoon. We wanted to get a private van because the dock was about 30-40 minutes away from our hotel and we didn’t want to ride a habal-habal going there. Although it’s definitely an option and a cheaper one at that! Rental of the van for the whole day was P3,000.
I told Lina I wish I had brought my GoPro with me because I don’t have any photos of us surfing and she recommended a photographer to join our trip!
His name is Wilmar and he asked for permission to bring a friend, Kristyna from Czech Republic. It was fine by us because: the more, the merrier! And the more people to split the van fee with hehe.
When we got to the dock, we bought some fish, squid, cooked rice and rum from the nearby market. We paid P1,600 for a roundtrip boat ride to Sugba Lagoon. It’s a 15-minute trip.
All photos were taken by Wilmar and color-graded by me! Sorry some of them are a little blurry.
We ate fish, squid, kinilaw, rice, and drank some rum with our new friends.
After Sugba Lagoon, we headed back to go surfing at Giwan. Some of the locals refer to it as G1. It’s a way better surf spot compared to the beginner’s spot, Jacking Horse. It’s also an adventure walking through the jungle to get to it.
Now, are you ready for the flood of surfing photos??
There’s no fee to surf at Giwan – I don’t think there’s any fee to surf anywhere, really. The only things you need to pay for, if you’re not an expert, is an instructor + surfboard for 500/hr and I would recommend the surf boots for 100 because the rocks could really hurt your feet. I consider this one to be the best day of our whole trip!

We did a 4D3N Siargao escapade with my b-f and bf (hahaha). We went surfing @ Jack Horse, I guess coz we definitely didn’t go to Giwan for a surf but I did remember a place when we went Leyte-Samar spontaneous out of town, we went to a place called Guian- not sure if that’s the same place but it has really great swells in there. The spelling tho.
We went island hopping and rode almost an hour habal2x ride going to Mapupungko Tidal pool and the butt numbing ride was worth it. Once you’re in there.
Saab
Hahaha! Butt-numbing indeed! Wish we went to the tidal pool!
Jane
Looks like you learned to surf fast. Cool! :)
Saab
Hehe thank you :)
C
How much did you pay for the photographer?
Saab
Supposedly 2,000 but since we had so much fun, Wilmar refused to accept payment from me!

One word: Paradise!

Photos are awesome! What camera did you use? Are you planning to buy a new one soon?
Saab
Sony A6000! Thank you! And no, I’m quite happy with what I have for now :)
Azed
Do you have any contact from Sugba Lagoon?
Saab
Nope, sorry!

Hi Saab! Planning to go to Siargao in July. My fiance and I would like to take advantage of the beauty of Siargao and we’re having such difficulty finding a photographer who can do a casual photo shoot for us (actually a prenup but we don’t want anything grand/ we’re getting married in November! :) Do you think Wilmar can do something like this? Would appreciate your reply! :) Would also appreciate if you can send his number to me…? misslemonbliss@yahoo.com <3
Saab
Oh, I don’t think Wilmar is the right guy for a pre-nup! His photography is more of a hobby lang and out of 100 blurry shots, mga 10 lang yata nagamit ko sa pictures niya :P
