For the past few months, my little brother Elmo has been filming an indie scene for Cinemalaya. Watching the teaser trailer makes me realize he is not so little anymore. Hahaha (but really – huhuhu)

The Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition is turning 10 years old this year as it opens on August 1-10, 2014 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Satellite venues include Greenbelt Makati, Alabang Town Center, TriNoma and Fairview Terraces.

“#Y” (“Hashtag Y”) chronicles the adventures of the members of a generation made universal by the realms of social media, the internet, sex, drugs and alcohol, and the occasional party and bullshit. This is us. And this is #Y

A bit of research led me to beauty-queen-turned-actress Joyce Ann Burton Titular‘s blog. She plays Elmo’s mom in the movie. Here’s what she wrote about Elmo:

My best moment was this one scene where we were required to hug for a long time. His Dad was a childhood friend and when we both grew up, I looked up to Francis as a Pinoy music icon. So I stood there with his boy in my arms and goosebumps all over me. All I could think was that Francis must be smiling in heaven knowing that Elmo is working hard in his craft as an actor and gaining the respect of people in the industry.

I’m definitely excited to watch this film directed by Gino M. Santos and written by Jeff Stelton!

Aside from Elmo, it stars Coleen Garcia, Slater Young, Kit Thompson and Sophie Albert. Like #Y on Facebook for updates. Screening schedule coming soon!
