Last month I held a contest sponsored by MTV Asia and Aloft Hotels where I had to pick one Spell Saab reader and his/her friend to come with me on my first trip to Malaysia!
It was very hard to choose a winner since so many of those who joined seemed pretty fun!! I’m very happy I chose Veronica Talla and her best friend Paolo Aquino to come with us! We had such a great time <3 Here is Nica’s winning itinerary:
Pao and I have always been so receptive to music. For a weekend in Malaysia I think we’d like to first check out the hotel and see MTV Asia’s “Live@Aloft” in their bar, just chilling out and enjoying the music while having little chit-chats here and there. The next day would be spent going around KL and exploring the place, checking out the museums, parks and business districts (and trying out the food!!!), while the last would probably be for last minute shopping and whatnot. What I love about Pao is, like me, he never lets music astray from his life and in his travels he takes photos and videos that he compiles in a montage on which he incorporates music that has become significant to the trip or other music that he thinks would be fitting for it. He secretly dreams to be a music and film director! Anyway, those are the goings-on in my head for my dream trip with you guys to KL! :)
Yayyy!! Unfortunately, Jim couldn’t go because of work. It’s a good thing my BFF Candy was available! It was our first international trip together and I can’t explain how excited we were! As usual, I didn’t sleep a wink the night before our flight. It wasn’t just excitement but I was also really anxious that I wouldn’t get up by 4AM to catch my 6:30AM flight. So I took a quick 30-minute nap around 3AM and was ready to leave by 4AM. In classic Candy fashion, she woke up late and got to my place at 5AM hahaha it’s a good thing I love her HAHAHA!
Nica and Pao were already at Terminal 4 when we got there. It was my first time at NAIA Terminal 4 and boy was it tiny and inefficient. Plus we had to pay a travel tax of Php1,620 and an airport tax of Php550. I was thinking out loud to Candy wondering why the fees weren’t included in the ticket when the cashier said, “Dapat alam mo yan, kakagaling lang ng ate mo dito!” (“You should know this, your sister just came from here!”) A small downside of being part of a celebrity family: people assume we share every mundane detail of our lives with each other! Haha!:p
ANYWAY. Here are photos I took on our first day in Malaysia!!
We had Hainanese Chicken for breakfast on the plane heehee
Nica and Pao!
Dead mosquito stuck inside the window
Finally in Kuala Lumpur International Airport!
From the airport, we took the KLIA Express Train to KL Sentral station. I love how Aloft was literally right beside the station!! So convenient.
The hotel’s front desk resembles a club’s DJ booth! So hip!
The Refuel station lets hotel guests have access to food and snacks anytime of the day since it’s open 24 hours!
The lobby also has 2 iMac computers you can use at your convenience! This is where we printed out our web check-in confirmation before we left!:)
There’s an Xbox that guests can use to kill time. Super cool!
Super colorful lobby – They change the layout of the furniture every 3 months.
A locker for charging your phone. We need this in malls and schools haha!
Super cute artwork by local artist Kenji Chai!!
They also had this really cool thing that updates how many Facebook likes their page has! IN REAL TIME! It flips the numbers like an old school clock.
Here it is after we liked it on our phones!! The only problem is when it reaches 6 digits haha!
One floor up is their dining area called Nook!
Of course we also checked out the wonderful pool on the top floor
Our rooms were so nice, it was really hard to leave haha
Excited for Live@Aloft Hotels!
Our first stop outside the hotel: 7-Eleven for water hahaha
We went to a really big mall called Publika. We got a bit lost trying to look for Fiercer Curry House, a restaurant my contact from MTV Asia recommended! It was a good kind of lost because some of the shops looked very interesting.
Finally! Fiercer Curry House!:D
Ugh I love Yogurt Shakes!
*burp!* The food was great and the price range affordable!
Candy bought Breathe Easy strips to help with her stuffed nose LOL good thing we ate spicy curry because I’m sure that helped clear her nasal passages hahaha
What a beautiful grocery store! “BY THE WEIGH” – Love it!!!
Waiting for our GrabTaxi to Batu Caves!:)
The cave is believed to be over 400 million years old! It’s a Hindu shrine dedicted to Lord Murugan (that giant statue outside!), the god of war, victory, wisdom and love!
Yep, we climbed all 272 steps!! FYI Candy and I rented sarongs for 5 ringgit each to cover up our legs out of respect.
There were monkeys everywhere just roaming freely! CUTE!
This monkey is in disbelief that we actually made it hahaha
I kind of wish there was more information available while exploring! But it’s okay, I Googled it. Yay, technology!
I guess this dog couldn’t wait
View from the top!
It was actually quite harder to walk down!! I was seriously DRENCHED in sweat hahaha and my legs were shaking while going down. I wonder if people have actually tripped and fallen down!! That would be the worst D:
We were so so so tired we headed back to the hotel, took a shower and had a buffet dinner at Nook!:)
Then it was finally time for Live@Aloft Hotels! We went down to have a few drinks at WXYZ bar and watched singer Kelly Siew! She was great! She covered a lot of popular songs and did them in her own style. I enjoyed her version of Radioactive by Imagine Dragons :)
She even called Candy onstage to sing Corinne Bailey Rae’s Like A Star with her!!
Drinks for all!
Great set by Kelly Siew and her guitarist!:) A quick Google search revealed that Kelly Siew is also a food blogger!! Check out www.kellysiewcooks.com.
We had a great first day!! Thank you so much to MTV Asia and Aloft Hotels! Part 2 of our trip will be posted tomorrow!!:)
