I’m really enjoying feeling like a student again! This July I attended 2 classes offered by Type Kita Academy, a group that loves everything type-related!
The first class I took was Chalk Lettering held by Kay Aranzanso (check out her work here, I’m such a fan!!)
I didn’t get to take any photos other than these 3, I was in the zone too much haha! But here’s a photo I posted on Instagram of our finished work! My MAYNILA is in the middle :) I told my classmates my inspiration for this one was Nacho Libre haha.
Just last Saturday I attended their calligraphy class held by La Bella Scrittura! I have never done this before and I didn’t know there was a special pen for calligraphy! As I’m not particularly good with drawing or anything, I was surprised to find out I wasn’t bad at it at all!
Look at my alphabet <3
Thank you so much to Gail of La Bella Scrittura for being so helpful! She lent me more advanced nib holders and quality ink that I actually had a hard time practicing when I got home because this ELEFANTE ink is no good compared to the one I used in class huhuhu. She let some of us use Higgins ink, available at their online store. I got so frustrated with my current ink, napabili ako online ng kung anu-ano. Hahaha! In fairness, I expected it to be very expensive but it’s so affordable! Thanks, Gail!! She’s a doctor who’s obsessed with calligraphy hence the Instagram name: @the_md_writes – she has short tutorials on it if you want to watch!
By the end of the class, we were free to write anything we wanted on a piece of paper. I wrote down lyrics to Cheats‘ song, Accidents.
After I posted this on Instagram, I accidentally (what a coincidence) messed up the L in animal so had to re-do it!
As you can see in the photo above, I used an oblique nib holder as opposed to the straight nib holder because this one easily angles the nib (the metal part that you dip in ink) for you!
So happy, I won 3 vintage nibs!!
Look how many left-handed people attended the class! I was the only right-handed student in our table hehe. They did great, led by left-handed teacher Aileen (the one holding the Love At First Type tote). Follow her on Instagram: @theleftieadvantage!
Here I am with the girls from La Bella Scrittura and Maan & Roma Agsalud of Type Kita (follow @typekita on Instagram)! The Agsalud sisters also have a really fun online shop called Popjunklove that will make you curse your sad, uncreative life. LOL
Like Type Kita on Facebook to know more about schedules and for links to class sign up sheets!:)
Looking forward to learning more new stuff!! Any recommended workshops I can take?!:) Cooking classes, maybe? Hahaha! Let me know!!
