I grew up reading a lot of comics – Archie, Garfield, Peanuts, Calvin & Hobbes just to name a few. They were all mostly from my grandmother’s collection of coffee table books. I looked forward to Sundays because The Philippine Star had a special Sunday Comics section! After reading, we’d use them to cover our school notebooks.
The Adventures of Tintin was a different story. They were very well preserved and for a small girl like me to hold a “big” comic book was extremely exciting. It’s more than twice the size of the usual Archie digest and the pages were glossy! The dialogue was far more advanced and I couldn’t get enough!
I went to Singapore a few months ago and spotted The Tintin Shop there! We weren’t allowed to take photos which was a definite bummer.
Fast forward to Fully Booked’s Free Comic Book Day last May 3rd when I found out that The Tintin Shop was opening right here in Manila! As Tintin’s dog Snowy would say: WOOAH WOOAH!!
Of course I went to the official launch last Wednesday! It was so much fun!! But before anything else — have you seen the new T-shirts at Fully Booked?! I just saw these and I’m in love!
That Great Gatsby one is a killer! They’ve also got literary phone cases!
And totes! Perfect for the books you just bought :D
Sorry I got distracted but finally we bumped into Tintin!!
Angel, our tour guide was so cute as she curated our 15-minute tour of the newly-opened Tintin Shop in Fully Booked.
This is the edition we had growing up!!
Georges “Hergé” Remi, the creator of Tintin, was known for his “clean-line” style of drawing.
I’ve got that big poster on the right! Bought it in Singapore thinking it would be my only chance. Now I know where I can get more Tintin memorabilia!
Here I am giving my own pieces of trivia to our tour guide! Hehe.
The Adventures of Tintin shot to popularity back in the day because it was a happy distraction from the World War.
The Fully Booked team really knows how to throw a launch! Look at the creative names of the yummy food!!
This is Victoria who has been helping me run my book giveaways since day 1! Oooh which reminds me, I’ve got one coming up real soon!!
Kaya mo yan, girl!
Woohoo! Thank you so much, Fully Booked, for the invite! Candy, Jim and I had a lot of fun!:) Looking forward to more adventures!
