I’ve heard plenty of good reviews about Lois Lowry’s children’s book The Giver (1993) but I still haven’t gotten around to reading it! I must admit that as a kid, this cover just did not appeal to me

Haha! Sorry!! I thought it was some boring pa-deep kind of book that I just didn’t want to read. But I heard that Suzanne Collins’ hit trilogy The Hunger Games is very reminiscent of The Giver aside from the Battle Royale comparisons. I grew curious but I still put a lot of books ahead of The Giver.

The first trailer of The Giver just came out.

In a seemingly perfect community, without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the “real” world.

Yes, yes, it looks awesome. But more importantly, who was that cutie?! The name is Brenton Thwaites

Taylor Swift is also in the movie if you pause somewhere near the 0:44 mark where there’s a super fast montage. Don’t look for blonde hair! Anyway, I can’t keep track of who her current boyfriend is but I researched and saw that she was rumored to be dating Brenton Thwaites around September of last year!

And just for laughs, look at what I found. Very totoy Brandon Boyd vibes hahaha. Is that even the same guy? Sorry – sloppy Google skills.

And can we discuss the saddest thing about the trailer? STARRING: Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep and Brendon Thwaites. Sobrang na-waley si Katie Holmes?! Hahaha but it’s alright sweet Joey Potter, there are no small roles. Looking forward to watching this! Maybe I’ll read it before it comes out! Have you guys read this book?

EDIT: He also plays Prince Phillip in the coming Maleficent movie! Look at this photo of him with Elle Fanning who plays Princess Aurora

Hi, Saab. I read this book just last year because, like you, I also read that Hunger Games was a a bit like it. Saw it all the time in Book Sale but I couldn’t be bothered (the old man on the cover does not really scream Buy Me!) until I was bothered.lol I took it as a sign that I was meant to read it because I saw it every time I was there. And I did not regret it. It’s a very short book, took me less than a day to finish it. But omg, all my feels! I was overwhelmed by the emotions I felt when I read it. And the irony of so many things..gaah! I won’t spoil it for you and the others who haven’t read it yet but I do hope you’ll read it soon. I hope you review it,too, because I can’t wait to see how you’d react to the story. Anyways, I’m curious about how they would end the movie since it is an open-ended book. The author lets you make your own conclusions. I was frustrated that it was short but then you’d get to use your imagination on how things would eventually end. And being the type of person who is good with worst-case scenarios, my imaginary ending did not end well. haha..

Ermergerd, you replied! :) You just made my day. I read the Divergent after Hunger Games too because of its dystopian theme. I’m currently on its third installment, The Allegiant. Hope you’ll make a review of it too and share your thoughts about it. I wonder what faction you’d choose to be in. :) By the way, the actress who plays Tris in the movie adaptation of Divergent also plays Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars movie. And the actor who plays her brother in Divergent is her love interest, Augustus Waters, in TFioS. hehe..

    Hello Saab,

As a fellow book lover, I felt obliged to let you know about what I thought of this book personally. I love this book! I read it when I was in high school and this book is the reason why I got interested to Dystopian themed novels. I believe deep in my heart that this is better than any of its contemporary counterparts. Lois Lowry is ah-mazing and also, this is kind of a quartet series so I hope you get to this one ASAP!
